It is the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort with wonderful snow throughout the whole season. The specific combination of natural conditions adds special attractiveness in winter as well as in summer. Pamporovo is a ski-centre for all categories of skiers; it has excellent ski runs including even a racing ski run for giant slalom, as well as a first class built-up ski lift system. There is a ski-school of international category too, with more than 100 highly qualified instructors. The climate of Pamporovo is an exclusive one, featuring soft winter with an average of 120 sunny days and extensive snow, while the snow cover reaches a thickness of 1.4 m. Pamporovo is under the significant meteorological influence of the Aegean Sea with a skiing season from mid-December to mid-April. Average air temperature during January, the coldest month of the year, is minus 30 C, while the negative ionization of the crystal clear air is both a major longevity factor and a bulwark against winter colds.
Also an inviting destination in summer, Pamporovo offers mountain bike trails, hiking and horse back trekking, not to mention shopping and massages! The biggest event of the year is Rozhen Folk Festival, held in late August between Pamporovo and Progled.
Most of the ski runs start on top of peak Snezhanka. They are located between 1926 and 1450 m above the sea level.
The ski school is known internationally for its experienced instructors. They teach beginners in groups or individually 2 to 4 hours daily. The duration of the different skiing classes is between 3 and 12 days. All course graduates will get a certificate.
Medical and Dental Service
The Emergency SKI PATROL service is available 24 hours a day. Ambulance and clinic (with doctor and nurse) are available, as well as first aid, on all ski slopes. Fully equipped and functioning hospitals are available in Smolyan and Chepelare. Highly qualified dentists are available at Pamporovo or Chepelare. Pharmacies are available at the resort.
Some medical and all dental services must be paid cash to the doctors (clinics). They should provide the necessary bills, receipts and invoices describing the service and the cost, so that you can claim back the expense to your insurance company. It is recommended that you call your insurance company and inform them in case of injury. Please follow their instructions.
Places to Go
We recommend a day trip to Plovdiv or the nearby town of Smolyan. Sofia and Bachkovo Monastery are of great interest too. The ethnographic reserve Shiroka Laka is situated 11 km from Pamporovo.
