Euxinograd

Euxinograd is a former late 19th-century Bulgarian royal summer palace and park on the Black Sea Coast, 8 km north of downtown Varna. It was built as a summer residence of Prince Alexander I Battenberg between 1881-1885. Originally the residence was called Sandrovo (a diminutive of the Italian name of the prince - Sandro) but in 1893 Princess Maria Luisa of Bourbon-Parma renames it Evksinograd (hospitable city). It is currently a governmental and presidential retreat hosting cabinet meetings in the summer and offering access for tourists to several villas and hotels. Since 2007, it is also the venue of the Operosa annual opera festival.
