Dive into the age of the Roman empire, when Sofia (ancient Serdica) was among the most important cities of the Balkans, capital of a Roman province. The tour will start with visit to the oldest fully preserved Christian church in Sofia - St. Sofia, which gave its name to the city. Underneath it are preserved the ruins of even older temples and part of the ancient necropolis with beautifully painted Roman tombs. From here we continue to Arena di Serdica - the Roman amphitheater, the ruins of which can be seen underneath a modern hotel. Nearby there are several remnants of the Roman fortifications. After visiting them, you will head to the heart of the Roman settlement, where several archaeological ensembles represent the cityscape in the antiquity. Among them, most important is the Rotunda of St. George - 4th century structure, turned nowadays into a Christian church. Here you will understand why emperor Constantine the Great used to say "Serdica is my Rome". The tour will finish at St. Nedelya Square.
Tour duration - 2 hours.
