The first Cooperative of vine-growers and wine-producers has been established in 1924 in the town of Pomorie and the first modern wine-cellar included in "Black Sea Gold" JSC has been put into operation in 1932. Company is situated on four sites in the Pomorie Region Vine-growing and Wine-producing Centre. 95% of the capital is private and 5% is owned by the state. The old reputation of Pomorie as Vine-growing and Wine-producing Center has been passed on and preserved during the ages by the masters wine-producers. Today, "Black Sea Gold" JSC - Pomorie technologists and experts, following the traditions and armed with new contemporary equipment and technology, implementing the latest achievements of world science and practice, carry on with dignity the reputation of Pomorie (Anhialo) wines.

The climate is characterized by mild winter, warm and dry summer and prolonged autumn, which determine the development of the vine crop in the region. Natural geographic and soil and climatic specifics determine vine-growing development as structural component of region's agriculture. The basic manufacturing specialization of the company is: buying wine grapes (between 20 and 30 thousand tons average per year), production of broached and bottled wine, wine brandy and brandies. The company is equipped with three bottling lines of 30 million bottles aggregate capacity per year.

 

Over 80% of the production is intended for export in the countries of Western European and the countries of CIS and Russia, the largest markets being Germany, France, Finland, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Israel and Japan. Produced wines are 50% white and 50% red. Basic assortments are quality dry white wines: "Dimiat", "Ugni Blanc", "Muscat" and "Chardonnay" and quality red wines: "Merlot" and "Cabernet Sauvignon".

 

The greatest demand on the market for export of quality white wines includes the following brands: "Chardonnay Regalis", "Muscat Regalis", "Chardonnay P", "Muscat P" - old vintages; "Chardonnay" - QWGAO - fermented in American oak casks - new vintage. Most marketable table wines are: "Mare Blanco", "Sauvignon Blanc", "Pomoriiska izba" ("Pomorie Cellar"). Export of quality red wines comprises mainly the following trade marks: "Merlot Regalis", "Cabernet Regalis", "Merlot P", "Cabernet P" - old vintages and "Merlot" and "Cabernet Sauvignon" - new vintages. Most demanded red wines on the internal market are: "Mare Negro", "Merlot", "Cabernet Sauvignon", "Pomoriiska Izba" ("Pomorie Cellar").

 

"Black Sea Gold" JSC - Pomorie is the largest producer of wine brandy in Bulgaria. The company has at its disposal a French distillery, the only one in Eastern Europe. Distillate, obtained from the sharant stills, has the typical fine aroma and elegant flavour with palatable freshness. That is why the cognac drinks produced of such distillate have excellent aromatic qualities that satisfy even the most refined tastes. Any person, who had tried the wine brandies of "Black Sea Gold", wishes the drinks again, produced of wine distillate, matured from two to forty years in oak casks of Strandzha oak. The drinks have clearly expressed finesse and vanilla aroma, with unforgettable flavour accumulating the sunrays and the invigorating strength of Bulgarian land.

 

Elite assortments of wine brandy are: "Black Sea Gold 33", "Black Sea Gold", "Pliska Aheloy", "Pliska Special Reserve", "Pomorie Reserve". The third direction in the activity is production and bottling of brandies. Main assortments are: "Pomorie Mature Special Brandy "Alambic"" "Pomorie Muscat Brandy", "Pomorie Special Brandy", Pomorie Grape Brandy". "Black Sea Gold" AD includes 2 wine cellars for primary wine making; distillery for production of wine distillate and brandies; premises for keeping and ageing in oak casks of distillate and brandies and their heat processing; heat processing and wine stabilization shop; bottling shop for wine brandy, brandies and warm wine bottling with two bottling lines; cold sterile wine bottling shop with new bottling line.

In 1924, the first Cooperative Cellar "Dimiat" has been established. In 1948, the government alcohol monopoly came into force and then cooperative property was distributed between the monopoly and the Regional Cooperative Ugnion - Pomorie. At present, "Black Sea Gold" JSC is the inheritor. The basic manufacturing specialization of the company is: buying wine grapes (between 20 and 30 thousand tons average per year), production of broached and bottled wine, wine brandy and brandies. The company is already one of the biggest producers in Bulgaria. Main raw material - grapes - is grown in Pomorie and Nessebar regions. Total area of planted vines already exceeds 32 000 decares. White varieties are: Dimiat, Muscat Otonel, Chardonnay, Ugni Blanc and Rkatsitelli, and the red ones are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mavrud, Alicante Bouchet and Pamid.

The famous high quality white wines from Pomorie are produced from Dimiat, Ugni Blanc, and Muscat Otonel and Chardonnay varieties. From the red varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon yield the high quality red wines from Pomorie. The company has the capacity to process 35 to 40 000 tons of grapes per year. “Black Sea Gold" production structure comprises two wine-cellars set up for red wines in Pomorie and for white wines in Kableshkovo, respectfully. It has at its disposal a Distillery for the production of wine distillate and brandies and 8 pieces of "Sharant stills" produced by company "Prulo" - France, premises for ageing and keeping in oak casks of wine distillate and brandies. The company has two bottling shops. One is for bottling wine brandy and brandies with two bottling lines and the other is for cold sterile bottling of wines.

The high quality products of the company dominate on the entire Bulgarian market and for export they are most demanded in Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, France, Norway, Germany, Finland, USA, Israel and Japan. A new article is the wine brandy "Black Sea Gold 33" released in 2001. Since that time, every year it participates in "Vinaria" competition and wins the gold medal for third successive year. The new article among the grape brandies is "Alambic". These two new articles are packed in super original and elegant bottles and they are exported with success.

Novelty in wine making is Chardonnay - Rhyton that wins for three successive years the "Golden Rhyton" of "Vinaria" at the Plovdiv Fair, vintages 2000, 2001 and 2002, respectively. New series "P" wines have been released: Chardonnay Pomorie - 2000, Muscat Pomorie - 2000, Merlot Pomorie - 1999 and Cabernet Pomorie - 1999. The company has also a modern accredited and notified laboratory.

"Black Sea Gold" JSC management thinks in prospect. Already over 1500 decares of new vineyards were planted with new wine varieties with the prospect the areas to reach 5000 decares. New equipment for production, stabilization and bottling of high quality red and white wines was purchased. "Black Sea Gold" JSC produces prime quality white and red wines, famous Pomorie brandies, nature brandy, that compete with the best samples of old French cognacs.

Furthermore, 10 wines (white and red) were awarded diploma - "Wine of the Year". Latest production is the new assortment wine brandy "Black Sea Gold 33", rewarded with Gold medals and Big honorary diploma on "Vinaria 2001" and "Vinaria 2002". Wine brandy "Black Sea Gold 33" is a drink to remember with dark golden colour, aged for over 33 years in small oak casks. Enigmatic vanilla tones make its flavour perfect and render uniqueness. From the grape brandies, brandy Alambic - 1999 and Muscat brandy - vintage 2000 were conferred Honorary diploma. High quality products dominate on the entire Bulgarian market and in the countries: Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Norway, Finland, USA, Israel, Japan, etc.
